The Regina Police Service has received 2 reports in the past month consistent with the Black Money Scam.
In this scam, conmen attempt to fraudulently obtain money from a victim by persuading him/her that thousands of dollars have been disguised in black ink. One of the conmen shows the victim how to “wash” the money, with a chemical, to convert it back to its original state. The money that the conman uses to “wash” is real money; however, the rest of the alleged bills are generally pieces of construction paper, cut to size. The conman convinces the victim to pay for the “chemical” which cleans the money.
Similar cons have been reported in Western Canada. The Regina Police Service reminds the public to practice caution when approached with deals which seem too good to be true. Report all incidents to the Regina Police Service at 777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
