A series of crimes last fall, which included a vehicle theft, two purse-snatchings, an assault causing bodily harm and a robbery of a restaurant and a patron; has been concluded with charges against two males.
This chain of events began on September 30, 2010, at approximately 7:42 p.m., when the Regina Police Service Communications Centre received a report of a red Dodge Caravan stolen from Angus Road in Regina’s Coronation Park neighbourhood. At approximately 8:45 p.m. that same evening, two males, in a van, drove up to a woman in a store parking lot in the 4400 block of Rochdale Boulevard. The 46 year-old female victim was getting a shopping cart when the male passenger in the van got out, grabbed her purse and got back into the van, which then left the scene. Almost an hour later, at 9:35 p.m., a similar event happened in a store parking lot in the 2000 block of Prince of Wales Drive. Two males in a van pulled up to a female who was returning a shopping cart. When one of the male suspects grabbed her purse, the 51 year old female victim resisted and was struck on the head with a metal object. The suspects left the scene without getting the purse, but the victim required stitches for three separate wounds. At approximately 9:40 p.m., (same night) a restaurant in the 2500 block of East Quance Street was robbed. A customer, who was in the business at the time, was also robbed by the same suspects. Police recovered the stolen vehicle that night, but it had been abandoned and the suspects were gone. The subsequent investigation into these incidents led to the arrest on March 5, 2011 of a 26 year-old male who faces a total of 17 charges in connection with these and other incidents. This individual made his first court appearance on March 7, 2011. On March 9, 2011, Regina Police Service investigators arrested a second male, who faces a total of ten charges in connection with the incidents described above.
The second individual charged in these cases is twenty-seven year-old Marcel Joseph PELLETIER, DOB: 1983-03-31, of Regina. PELLETIER is charged with Theft over $5,000 [334(a) CC]; Possession of Stolen Property over $5,000 [355(a) CC]; four charges of Robbery [344(b) CC]; three charges of Wearing a Disguise with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence [351(2) CC]; and one charge of Assault causing Bodily Harm [267(b) CC]. PELLETIER made his first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court today, Thursday, March 10, 2011.
