A 35 year-old Regina male has been charged with Theft under $5,000. in connection with a purse-snatching that occurred in downtown Regina on Saturday, January 29th.
At approximately 12:40 p.m., on Saturday, January 29, 2011, a 69 year-old female was waiting near the corner of 11th Avenue and Scarth Street, when a male ran up to her, grabbed her purse from the front of her walker and ran westbound on 11th Avenue. A passer-by attempted to stop the thief, but could not hold him. Police arrived and interviewed the victim, who was not physically hurt in the encounter. Officers did a check of the area and located the woman’s purse and most of her belongings a few blocks away. Police obtained a description from the victim and witnesses and also obtained surveillance video that led to identification of a possible suspect. On Sunday, January 30th, a male matching the description of the suspect, was detained by police in the 1800 block of Osler Street. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of this individual.
Thirty-five year-old Darcy Gordon COTE, DOB: 1976-01-01, of Regina, is charged with Theft Under $5,000. contrary to section 334(b) of the Criminal Code. COTE was released on a recognizance and will make his next court appearance in Provincial Court on March 2, 2011.
