Two Regina males are facing a charge of Robbery after an incident on January 9, 2011 in which a pizza delivery person was robbed at knifepoint. In another robbery incident on the same date, a male victim was sprayed with a substance believed to be bearspray or mace; police are still working to identify the suspects involved.
The first of these incidents occurred in the early morning of January 9, 2011. Police were dispatched at about 3:30 a.m. to an apartment building in the 1900 block of Quebec Street, for a report of a pizza delivery person who had been robbed of cash at knifepoint by an unknown male suspect. The victim, a 35 year-old male, was otherwise unhurt. Investigation, including a canine track that began and ended at the same apartment block, led to the arrest of two Regina males: one matched the description of the assailant, the other alleged to have been involved in the planning and execution of the robbery.
The accused are: 21 year-old Brian Robert MORRISSEAU, DOB: 1989-07-16, and 35 year-old Eric Daniel MERCER, DOB: 1975-09-15, both of Regina. Each is charged with Robbery, contrary to section 344(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada. Both men made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011.
The second incident happened at about 4:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of Pasqua Street. The caller indicated he had assisted a male who’d been sprayed with mace. Police and EMS attended and took a 32 year-old male to hospital for treatment of the symptoms of bearspray or mace. The male indicated he had been approached by two unknown males who demanded money. One of the suspects sprayed the victim and took some cash from him. The two suspects fled the area and were not located by police. The description of the victims is not very specific; however, investigators are working on identifying possible suspects.
Anyone who has information that could assist police in this investigation is asked to contact the Regina Police Service at 777-6500 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
