As Christmas Day approaches, the Regina Police Service is reminding motorists to exercise good winter driving skills, especially the practice of driving defensively.
Last-minute shopping, Christmas parties and family get-togethers can add to the volume of traffic. Also, in spite of the repeated messages warning against drinking and driving, there will be some drivers who still choose to drive impaired. Do not be one of those drivers and observe other traffic for signs of erratic driving. The weather forecast for the next few days shows mainly clear conditions and daytime temperatures in the minus nine to minus two range. Still, drivers should employ good winter driving skills:
- Take a little extra time to get to your destination.
- Check highway conditions for longer trips.
- Drive at a speed safe for the road and weather conditions and within the posted speed limit.
- Remember to leave more space between you and the vehicle ahead of you giving yourself more stopping distance and reaction time.
