After consultation with experts, the Regina Police Service has concluded that a bone, found west of the city yesterday, is not human. The bone was found in the area of Pinkie Road and Dewdney Avenue on Saturday, September 4, 2010.
Police were dispatched to the area shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2010, after a bone was found near the railway tracks. This is the same area being searched by family and friends of Danita BIGEAGLE, a young Regina woman who has been missing since February, 2007. An item of clothing was found about ten metres to the north and, approximately half a kilometer away, a belt, hairband and piece of red clothing were also found. Police Forensic Identification members contacted two experts to get opinions on the origin of the bone and each returned the opinion that the bone found is not human. In light of this result, the discovery of the clothing appears to have no connection to any police investigation.
Police have contacted the family of Danita BIGEAGLE to advise them of this development. Police are no longer holding the scene of the discovery.
