Two Regina youths, ages 16 and 17, face a total of eleven charges as the result of investigation into three incidents just before 1:00 a.m. today in Regina. The two make their first court appearance on these charges in Provincial Court today, Thursday, August 5, 2010.
At approximately 12:55 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010, police were dispatched to a report of a mischief in progress at a house in the 400 block of St. John Street. Among the police units responding was a member of the Canine Unit, who started a sweep of the area in response to information that the suspects had fled the scene. The Canine member drove past a convenience store in the 500 block of Broad Street and observed two males, one of whom was in the store and appeared to be assaulting the employee on duty. The officer further noted that the suspect male was wearing clothing matching the description of one of the suspects in the mischief reported moments earlier. The officer directed both males to the ground as other units arrived to assist in the arrests. Investigation led to evidence of a number of offences and subsequent charges.
It is alleged both males were involved in two incidents of mischief in the 400 block of St. John Street and the robbery of the store in the 500 block Broad Street. It is further alleged the 17 year-old was involved in an assault on a 17 year old male and a sexual assault on a 13 year-old female (400 block St. John Street) and an incident at about 12:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Montreal Street that resulted in threats uttered and an assault on a 17 year-old female.
The two youths cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The 17 year-old male is charged with Uttering Threats [264.1(1)(a) CC]; two charges of Assault [266 CC]; one charge of Sexual Assault [271 CC]; two charges of Mischief Under $5,000. [430(4) CC] and one charge of Robbery [344(b) CC]. The 16 year-old is charged with two charges of Mischief Under $5,000. [430(4) CC]; one charge of Robbery [344(b) CC] and one charge of Breach of Undertaking [145(3) CC]. the 16 year-old was also arrested on a unrelated outstanding warrant. Both youths make their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. today, Thursday, August 5, 2010.
