Two Regina males, ages 40 and 28, arrested in connection with a robbery on June 8, 2010, now face a total of eighteen charges as the result of additional investigation into a string of recent events.
On June 8, 2010, at approximately 10:35 p.m., police were dispatched to a robbery at a restaurant in the 100 block Victoria Avenue East. Preliminary investigation indicated two male entered the business; one produced a knife and demanded cash from the employee on duty. The two suspects left the scene on mountain bikes. Police used members of the canine unit to track the suspects to an address in the 1800 block Winnipeg Street. Two males were arrested; one was charged with Robbery and Breach of Probation; the other was charged with Robbery and Assault with a Weapon. Subsequent investigation into other, recent events led to several additional charges against the same suspects. These other cases are as follows:
- June 6, 2010 – robbery of a restaurant on the 700 block of Victoria Avenue East;
- June 2, 2010 – possession of a stolen auto;
- June 1, 2010 – assault with a weapon in the 1700 block of Prince of Wales Drive;
- June 1, 2010 – obstruction of a Peace Officer;
- May 28, 2010 – theft of a vehicle in the 1200 block of Wascana Street;
- and the robbery of a 46 year-old male on May 2, 2010, in the area of 4th Avenue and Pasqua Street.
Forty year-old Mark Robert SIMPSON, DOB: 1969-12-13, of no fixed address, is charged with two charges of Robbery [344(b) CC]; six charges of Breach of Probation [733.1(1) CC]; two charges of Assault With a Weapon [267(a) CC]; Theft over 5,000 Dollars [334(a) CC]; Possession of Stolen Property over 5,000 Dollars [355(a) CC]; Evade Police [249(1) CC]; and Obstruct Peace Officer [129(a) CC].
Twenty-eight year-old Dennis Calvin THOMPSON, DOB: 1981-12-23, of Regina is charged with two charges of Robbery [344(b) CC]; and two charges of Assault With a Weapon [267(a) CC].
Both accused made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m., today, Thursday, June 10, 2010.
