A 17 year-old male was in Youth Court in Regina this morning facing a charge of Attempted Murder, as well as numerous other charges, in connection with an incident early Sunday morning on Halleran Crescent, in which a 45 year-old male victim was taken to hospital with seven apparent stab wounds. A 14 year-old and two 13-year-olds were also arrested and charged in connection with the same, and related, incidents.
At 3:51 a.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010, police were dispatched to Halleran Crescent for a report of a theft in progress. The caller indicated that the male resident of their household had confronted youths believed to be stealing from his vehicle. The male resident caught one of the youths and detained him for police, but before police arrived, the 17 year-old suspect turned on the homeowner and alleged attacked him. Police arrived and arrested the 17 year-old youth; EMS transported the 45 year-old victim to hospital. Further investigation led to the arrests of two youths in the area, shortly after 4:00 a.m. and a fourth arrest at 11:23 p.m. Sunday. Investigation also indicated that a number of vehicles had been broken into on that street that evening. As a result, a total of 25 charges have been laid in connection with these incidents.
None of the accused can be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal justice Act. The 17 year-old is charged with Attempted Murder [239 CC]; Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose [88 CC]; Breach of Undertaking [145(3) CC]; four charges of Theft Under $5,000 [334(b) CC]; and three charges of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 [355(b) CC]. The two 13 year-olds and the 14 year-old are each facing four charges of Theft Under $5,000 [334(b) CC]; and one charge of Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000 [355(b) CC]. All four youths made their first appearances in Youth Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 07, 2010.
