The Regina Police Service has an operational plan for Grey Cup Game Day on Sunday, November 29, 2009. The objective of the plan is public safety and maintaining safe flow of traffic before, during and after the game. Even though the venue for this event is Calgary, Alberta, the Regina Police Service expects that the Regina public will celebrate their team and the Service’s goal is to help people celebrate in a safe environment here in our city. The Regina Police Service encourages people to enjoy themselves, to be respectful of others and to make good choices.
On Game Day, November 29th, the Regina Police Service will have additional police officers on duty during and after the game to establish a friendly presence and to help manage large gatherings and a heavier-than-normal volume of traffic on Regina streets. Police are asking for the public’s cooperation in a number of areas:
1) Fans are being asked not to over-consume alcohol and are reminded that consuming liquor in a public place is against the law. Police will be taking action against public intoxication and any criminal activity. Police will be visiting game-day venues to encourage patrons to conduct themselves in a law-abiding manner.
2) Plan a safe ride home. Do not drink and drive. If you are hosting a Grey Cup party, be a responsible host and help your guests plan a safe ride home.
3) In areas where there may a significant number of pedestrians, police will be on hand to ensure the safety of all users of the roadway.
4) Police will be striving, at all times, to keep main roadways clear for emergency vehicles and, during and after the game, will closely monitor traffic flow and share information with the Regina Fire Department, EMS and the City to ensure effective dispatch and choice of routes for emergency or city vehicles.
Saskatchewan Roughrider fans have the reputation of being the best fans in the country. The Regina Police Service is encouraging football fans to celebrate in a responsible manner. We can be proud of our team’s performance…let’s ensure that our team can be proud of its fans, too.
