The purpose of the Regina Police Service Victim Services Unit is to assist victims of crime and traumatic events by providing them with information, support, and referral services in a sensitive and timely manner. Our primary focus is on violent crime, break and enters, and incidents involving serious injury or death.
The Unit’s Goals are:
1. To lessen the immediate and long term effects of crime experienced by victims.
2. To minimize the trauma experienced by victims of a traumatic event.
3. To help victims of crime and traumatic events cope with the incidents.
4. To develop and maintain a directory of referral agencies and to ensure that referral information is readily available to victims.
5. To minimize any re-victimization of victim/witnesses as a result of their involvement in the criminal justice system.
6. To enhance and coordinate the communication and flow of information between the victim, the police and the criminal justice system.
7. To assist the Regina Police Service in providing a sensitive and comprehensive service to victims and to the community.
Our Services Include:
1. Listening
2. Police case information for victims
3. Court information and accompaniment
4. Coordination/provision of information regarding Victim Compensation, Restitution and the Criminal Justice System
5. Crime Prevention advice
6. Home Security checks
7. Referral to community resources and other police agencies
8. Home/office visits for support
After reviewing police files or receiving a referral from a police officer to assist, we initiate contact with a victim. However, anyone is welcome to call our office with any questions or concerns or if in need of assistance.
Two Aboriginal Resource Officers are available within the Victim Services Unit to respond to the needs of the aboriginal community, it's victims and their families.
The Regina Police Service Victim Services recognizes the dedication of its staff of volunteers. These individuals are highly trained community members who have undergone an extensive security clearance to provide services for victims in a sensitive and confidential manner. All Volunteer Support Workers working in the Regina Police Service Victim Services Unit participate in a comprehensive training program relating to victimology issues, police procedures, crime prevention, the criminal justice system and Regina community resources for referral purposes.
