The Street Crimes Section is comprised of the Property Crimes, Crime Stoppers, Pawn Shops, Stolen Auto, SHOCAP and The Forensic Identification Units.

The Property Crime Unit is responsible for the investigation of all property crimes, including residential and business break and enters, and thefts of property excluding automobiles. The Crime Stoppers Coordinator is responsible for screening Crime Stoppers tips and assigning them for investigation. The Missing Persons Coordinator assesses missing person files and monitors their investigation. This includes cases where an individual has been missing for an extended period, as well as cases of habitual runaways.

The Pawn Shop Unit monitors property pawned or sold through second hand stores. Pawn Shops are required to forward reports electronically to police, which detail all transactions. With the development of a computer software program, police are able to cross-reference pawn shop transactions with stolen property entered on a national database. If, in the process of monitoring these transactions, police discover stolen property, the Pawn Shop Unit is responsible for the recovery of stolen property and initiating an investigation.

The Stolen Auto Unit’s mandate is to investigate all stolen automobiles. The Regina Police Service also works pro-actively within the community to encourage residents to buy and use anti-theft devices in their vehicles and practice crime prevention strategies.

The SHOCAP (Serious Habitual Offenders Comprehensive Action Plan) Unit provides intensive supervision of all individuals who have been designated as SHOCAP targets. The SHOCAP Unit works with Saskatchewan Justice (Prosecutions and Adult Probation Branches) and the Department of Social Services in designation and supervision of habitual offenders. Part of the police responsibility, for example, is to ensure that an offender complies with the conditions of his/her judicial release.
