History
The Major Crimes Section is comprised of the Major Crimes Unit, Major Case Management, Serious Crimes Unit and Habitual Offender Unit.
Major Crimes investigators (Sergeants and one Assistant, under the direction of a Staff Sergeant) are responsible for coordinating and investigating all major crimes against people, including murders, serious assaults and robberies. While Patrol members provide the initial response to all calls for service, once it becomes apparent that an incident is a major crime, it is handed over to Major Crimes investigators.
Major Case Management Unit - The Major Case Management Unit falls under the umbrella of Major Crimes. While some individual members of the Regina Police Service have had this training in the past, we now have a unit that is specifically tasked with any incident that will involve the Major Case Management model. This model is put in place during those incidents or investigations involving “Joint Forces Investigations,” large and complex investigations involving many suspects, scenes witnesses and exhibits, or incidents such as an aircraft crash, where tracking of evidence will be massive.
Three officers are assigned to the unit, one is responsible for Habitual Offenders and the other two are responsible for major case management, managing any fatal accidents within the city and data analysis involving robberies.
The Organized Crime Unit (Sergeant, Corporal, Constables and support staff) is funded by the Department of Justice to investigate Organized Crime and gangs.
The Habitual Offender Unit is responsible for the regular monitoring of people on Parole. The Unit also maintains contact with partners in the Justice System like Parole, Probation Services and Correctional Services.
