If it has to do with people who work, or want to work , the Regina Police Service, you’ll find it in Human Resources. This is the section that deals with recruiting, hiring, training, developing, evaluating and managing our people. The Manager of this section oversees the Human Resources policies, programs and procedures, including recruiting and hiring both police officers and civilian staff. The Manager also oversees performance appraisals, job classification and career counselling, providing feedback on all of these to the Executive. Programs like Employment Equity, Occupational Health & Safety and Employee & Family Assistance are also part of Human Resources. There are eleven other employees in the Human Resources section who report to the Human Resources Manager:

Human Resources Officer (2)

– works to meet the needs of the Regina Police Service in the area of civilian recruiting. There are just over 130 civilian positions in the Service including Police Information Clerks, Court Information Clerks, Data Quality and Case Management Specialists, Communications Officers, Fleet Services , Facilities Services and Evidence Management staff. Some positions require you to work shift work.

Recruiting Officer

– works to ensure the sworn recruiting needs of the Service comply with regulations outlined in the Saskatchewan Police Act. The Regina Police Service has just over 347 sworn members.

Like many workplaces, the Regina Police Service has a commitment to having a work force that is representative of the public we serve. The Regina Police Service has an Employment Equity Plan registered with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission that has the goal of creating that representative work force, by recruiting women in non-traditional roles, persons of aboriginal ancestry, other visible minorities and people with disabilities. The Recruiting Officer delivers lectures to Regina schools, post-secondary institutions, technical institutes, community associations, employment agencies, and career counsellors on careers in policing. The officer also attends career fairs and visits schools throughout the province in a continuing effort to attract quality candidates to our Police Service.

Training & Development Officer (3)

– make sure all mandatory training is carried out, as well as coordinating other training needs for the Service. When positions within the Service become vacant because of transfers or retirements, these sworn officers assist in the selection of members to fill the vacancies.

Polygraph Operator

– conducts all criminal polygraph (lie-detector) tests to determine the validity of witness statements as required. In addition, all potential employees of the Regina Police Service undergo a pre-employment polygraph as part of the selection process.

Armourer/Firearms

– the Saskatchewan Police Act specifies all police officers must qualify in the use of firearms every year. The Armourer and twenty Firearms Instructors ensure all police officers meet this qualification requirement. The Armourer is responsible for maintaining the indoor police range, firearms used by the members and purchasing firearms and supplies for our police officers to carry out their duties and responsibilities.

Did you know:

Approximately 4,500 pounds of lead accumulates in the range each year.

Wellness Coordinator

– develops a Wellness Program for all RPS employees. People on shift-work have some unique wellness needs. At Regina Police Service the Patrol Officers work shifts, but so do many civilian employees, like those in the Communications Centre, Central Records and Fleet Maintenance (garage). The Wellness Coordinator conducts fitness programs and provides one-on-one wellness counselling as needed. The Wellness Coordinator also acts as the Fitness Consultant to the recruit training at the Sask. Police College.

Secretary

- Human Resources has two secretaries to do the numerous tasks required to provide secretarial support for this section.
