A Sunday morning traffic stop by an RPS Canine Unit member has resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, a shotgun and ammunition; as well as charges against two Regina males.
On Sunday, April 9, 2017, at approximately 1:00 a.m., a canine member on routine patrol in an unmarked car, observed a vehicle with two occupants, turning south onto Albert Street from 5th Avenue. The officer’s attention was drawn to the vehicle when it accelerated to, and maintained, a speed well above the posted speed limit. The officer also noted that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt. The police officer conducted a vehicle stop in the area of Dewdney Avenue and Albert Street. An investigation by the officer lead to a search of the vehicle’s interior and in that search, the officer found a quantity of methamphetamine and marihuana, as well as items indicative of drug trafficking. A further search of the vehicle located a 12-gauge shotgun and ammunition. The males were subsequently charged.
Thirty-two year-old Aron Thomas SCOTT, DOB: 1984-09-01, and 29 year-old Logan Edward-Thomas ROSS, DOB: 1988-03-11, both of Regina, are each charged with the following:
- 2 x Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition, s. 117.01(1) CC;
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, s. 92(1) CC;
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, s. 94(1) CC;
- Careless Use of a Firearm, s. 86(1) CC;
- Breach of Probation, s. 733.1(1) CC; and
- 2 x Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking, s. 5(2) CDSA.
Both SCOTT and ROSS made their first court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017.
