On Sunday, December 4th, 2016, at approximately 9:55 p.m., police were dispatched to the 700 block of N Hayworth Crescent as a sixteen year-old male wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was alleged to be at that location. As police arrived at the address, a vehicle pulled away. The vehicle was spinning its tires and having trouble gaining traction on the ice, so police engaged the vehicle on foot, communicating for the driver to stop as the vehicle gained traction. The vehicle lost control and hit the curb at Dolan Drive and Battel Street, then reversed, yet was still unable to gain traction. Police broke the windows of the driver side and attempted to draw the key from the ignition, when the vehicle came to rest and the occupants of the vehicle were extracted. The driver, a sixteen year-old male, was arrested and charged. A small amount of marihuana was found on his person.
A sixteen year-old male, who will not be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is charged with:
- Flight while pursued by peace officer [CC 249.1(1)];

- Possession of a scheduled substance [CDSA 4(1)];
- Failure to comply [YCJA 137] x 2;
- Escape lawful custody [CC 145(1)(A)].
The accused made his first scheduled appearance on these charges in Provincial Youth Court this morning, Monday, December 5th, 2016, at 9:30 a.m.
