The Regina Police Service is investigating a bomb threat received this morning at Jack MacKenzie Elementary School and St Gabriel School, both of which were placed in Secure-the-Building*.
At approximately 9:49 a.m. this morning (Wednesday, May 25, 2016) police were notified of a bomb threat received at Jack MacKenzie Elementary School. Police conducted a search of the buildings, and have not found anything suspicious. Police have not found anything suspicious. Secure-the-Building was lifted shortly before 11:00 am.
Investigation is ongoing. Police take the threat of any violence seriously and, when such a threat is directed at a school, work closely with School Divisions to take appropriate steps to ensure safety for all. If there is enough evidence present, police will pursue criminal charges against the person or persons believed to be responsible for this threat.
* “Secure the Building”: Is a situation where it is believed a threat is currently outside the building resulting in the decision to secure the school whereby all outside doors will be locked to secure the building. Each exterior door is to be monitored by designated school staff until Secure the Building mode has been lifted. Entry and exit of the building will be at the front doors only and are to be monitored by police and school administration. Regular interior school activities continue in a controlled manner.
