A police call for service to the Regina International Airport this morning has been concluded with no cause for alarm.
Police were dispatched to the Regina International Airport at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015, for a report of a prohibited item in a piece of carry-on luggage. The object was discovered through the normal pre-boarding passenger screening process. Staff enacted standard procedure for a prohibited item. Police attended and determined that the object was the barrel of a firearm belonging to a 36 year-old male who had proper legal authority to possess the firearm to which the barrel belonged. The owner had followed the proper procedure for the transport of the weapon itself (in checked baggage); he had simply forgotten that the barrel was in his carry-on luggage. There was no potential for harm to others from this incident.
Police were able to conclude the matter quickly. There was no impact to airport operations.
