A 17 year-old Regina male makes his first court appearance in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. today (Thursday, January 29, 2015) facing several weapons-related charges.
The charges stem from an incident reported to police at approximately 8:20 p.m. last night (Wednesday, January 28, 2015). The report indicated a male had pointed a firearm at another male outside the Regina General Hospital in the 1400 block of 14th Avenue. The male suspect left on foot before police arrived, but the victim was able to provide a clothing description for the suspect. A person matching the suspect description was located in the area of 14th Avenue and Broad Street. He was taken into custody without incident and a search of this individual located a sawed-off shotgun, which was not loaded.
The youth cannot be named in accordance with the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. He will face the following charges: Possession of a Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace [88 CC]; Carrying a Concealed Weapon [90 CC]; Careless Use of a Firearm [86(1) CC]; Use of a Firearm in the Commission of an Indictable Offence [85(1)(a) CC]; Possession of a Prohibited Weapon [92(2) CC]; Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm [92(1) CC]; Assault With a Weapon [267(a) CC]; and Pointing a Firearm [87 CC]. The youth will make his first court appearance on these charges in Youth Court at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015.
