The Saskatchewan Police Commission approved the use of CEWs by members of municipal police services in Saskatchewan on January 21, 2013. Since that time, the Regina Police Service has been preparing to equip front line members with CEWs. That process, which includes additional training and acquisition of the devices, is not yet complete. In this case, the CEW was deployed by a trained and equipped member of the Regina Police Service Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) member, who is also a patrol officer and the first officer to respond to the 9-1-1 call. SWAT members certified in the use of CEWs, are authorized to carry CEWs and deploy CEWs on their own command since January 21, 2014.
