The Regina Police Service is now able to confirm that the death of a person, whose body was found in a burned house on Sunday, March 23rd, in the 1400 block of Wascana Street, is now a homicide investigation. This is the second homicide in Regina in 2014. This confirmation is the result of an autopsy, ordered by the Coroner, completed yesterday in Saskatoon. Police have been holding the scene since Sunday and have now obtained the necessary authority to search the house, but because of the fire, there are still safety concerns associated to the structural damage to the dwelling. Forensic identification investigators are working at the scene of the fire today.
The investigation has also now confirmed the identity of the deceased person. The deceased person is 53 year-old Ray Allen YACEVICH, DOB: 1960-09-02, of Regina. YACEVICH was a resident of the dwelling at 1450 Wascana Street. His next-of-kin have been notified of his death.
The investigation into this incident is ongoing. At this time, there have been no arrests made in connection to this case. Police are encouraging anyone who may have information to contact the Regina Police Service at 306-777-6500, the nearest municipal Police Service or RCMP detachment, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
