We have some serious traffic issues this morning in our city. Highway 46 is not drivable along with many other roads on the edges of our city, specifically those open to the blowing wind combined with icy conditions. Cars are getting stuck or stopped in traffic and are being blown off the road due to ice and crosswinds. RCMP are blocking off Highway 46 out of town, and RPS have Highway 46, Fleet St northbound and McDonald St northbound blocked off as well. There have only been a handful of collisions, none with injuries, but the most significant issue is stuck or stranded vehicles. Please avoid Highway 46, all roads leading to it, and any open area roads on the edges of our city. Highway conditions surrounding Regina are poor to not driveable.
If you are stuck on Highway 46, please stay in your car, with the vehicle running. Make sure you have cleared snow away from the tailpipe and that you have a window open a crack to let fresh air in. We have officers on scene who are coordinating sanders, and tow trucks and we will get to you, but it will take some time. If your situation changes and you absolutely need help, please phone 911 or walk to police. Please have patience as our officers help everyone. Please be patient and cautious as you drive roads in Regina as they are quite icy and the wind is causing drivers and pedestrians problems.
