A 27 year-old Regina female has been charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm in connection with police investigation into the suspected abuse of a two-month old male infant.
On Saturday, February 16, 2013, police were made aware of a possible case of child abuse. The individual reporting to police indicated that a two-month old baby boy showed signs of trauma; the reporting party believed that the injuries were non-accidental. The initial police investigation led to a request for members of the Regina Children’s Justice Centre, or RCJC. The Regina Children’s Justice Centre is made up of Regina Police Service investigators and personnel from the Ministry of Social Services who work with the additional resources of the Crown and the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region in an integrated Child Abuse Team. Investigation led to the arrest of a 27 year-old female who was subsequently charged in connection with this case. It is believed the child’s injuries were caused between February 12th and 14th, 2013. Investigation is ongoing.
A 27 year-old Regina female has been charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm [221 CC]. The name of the accused will not be released by police at this time, as it would serve to identify the child victim. The accused made her first court appearance on this charge in Provincial Court at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2013.
