A 42 year-old male, who is a Corporal with eleven years of service with the Regina Police Service, is facing a charge of common assault following an RCMP investigation into a report of an assault on a 64 year-old male on Saturday, June 9, 2012, in the Edenwold District. While off-duty at the time, the police officer identified himself as a police officer and alleges he was acting within that capacity.
The assault is alleged to have occurred at about 11:00 a.m. June 9, 2012, in the Edenwold District. The parties in this incident were not known to each other before the time of the incident. Upon receiving word of the charge against the member, Chief Troy Hagen reviewed the circumstances and made a decision to leave the member in his current duties until the court case is concluded. Upon conclusion of the court case, an administrative review, pursuant to The Police Act, 1990, will be conducted with recommendations for the Chief’s consideration.
Forty-two year old Todd A. SHERWIN, DOB: 1970-05-12, is charged with Common Assault, contrary to Section 266 of the Criminal Code. SHERWIN will make his first court appearance on this matter in Provincial Court on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.
