Five people: three males and two females, have been charged following an investigation that included a search of a south Regina residence and the seizure of cash and a significant quantity of cocaine.
This investigation began one month ago and culminated on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, with a surveillance operation on a vehicle and its two occupants, involved in what was believed to be a drug transaction in the Cathedral neighbourhood. Uniformed members carried out a traffic stop on this vehicle at about 5:00 p.m. on Victoria Avenue, leading to the arrest of two suspects: a male and a female. At approximately 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, a search warrant was executed at an apartment residence on James Hill Road in Regina. Two males and a female were arrested at that residence and police seized evidence including 540, individually-wrapped, ½ gram packages of cocaine, valued at close to 20-thousand dollars, a significant amount of cash and numerous cell phones. Subsequent investigation led to a total of eleven, mainly drug-related, charges against the five suspects in connection with the May 29th traffic stop and search. Two of the suspects also face a total of four drug-related charges in connection with an alleged drug transaction in the 400 block of Albert Street North on April 27, 2012.
Each of the following individuals has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine [5(2) CDSA] and Proceeds of Crime over $5000. [355(a) CC], in connection with events on May 29, 2012: 24 year-old Babar ALI, DOB: 1988-02-02, of Toronto; 20 year-old Ruth BANNERMAN, DOB: 1990-04-15, of Toronto; 24 year-old Maria Mong Ly HOANG, DOB: 1988-01-04, of Regina; 24 year-old Joe Louis LIMA, DOB: 1987-11-21, of Victoria, B-C; and 24 year-old Andrew PHAM, DOB: 1988-01-03, of Regina. ALI is also charged with Breach of Recognizance [145(3) CC]. In connection with events on April 27, 2012, both Maria Mong Ly HOANG and Joe Louis LIMA are also charged with Traffic Cocaine [5(1) CDSA] and Proceeds of Crime Under $5000. [355(b) CC]. All five accused made their initial court appearances on these charges in Provincial Court at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.
