The Regina Police Service is hosting a Round Dance tonight, Friday, February 18, 2011, starting at 4:30 p.m. This event will be held indoors at the Al Richie, 2250 Lindsay Street.
Round Dances are traditional ceremonies held in the fall or winter to bring people together for fellowship and sharing. There will be a traditional Pipe Ceremony starting at 4:30 p.m. In keeping with Aboriginal tradition, the Pipe Ceremony may not be recorded, but members of the media who wish to experience this ceremony, are encouraged to participate. The Feast, which follows the Pipe Ceremony at 5:00 p.m., may be recorded and is open to the community. Male members of the Regina Police Service, SIAST Aboriginal Police Preparation Program and the RPS Community Cadet Corps will act as servers for the Feast. Since it is tradition that one may not refuse food offered during the Feast, attendees may wish to bring containers to carry food not consumed.
Members of the media are invited to attend the Round Dance on February 18, 2011, starting at 4:30 p.m. Dress is casual for this event. All aspects of the Round Dance are open to the media and community.
